Elma Makaroro Testimony

First of all I want to thank God for giving us life. Also, I want to thank the Wellness
Center and all the workers for their teaching and lead us.

During the three month of training we are learned how to cook healthy food and exercise each day. We also learned how to garden and grow our own food.  I saw lots of good things in this program and I learned many kinds of exercise and how to control my diabetes.  When I joined this program my blood sugar was 238 and my pound was 138 and I didn’t  feel good, but I tried hard and I saw lots of differences in myself. First thing I saw different in me was I could move faster. Second thing was I  lost 26 pounds and my blood sugar is down to 125 and sometime is going down to 58. Now I know what the main point is to get my blood sugar down.

            First one> Eat right food
            Second one>Exercise everyday

Now I want tell everyone else to try to control eating foods like white rice or white bread. And stop eating fried food because of the fat it is not good to our body or our life I know it’s true. This is the right way to do it’s
All scientists say diabetes is one kind of sickness they call silent killer because you will not notice until it’s too late, but now we know what to do to make us live longer. If you don’t control your blood sugar diabetes will get you.

Thank you again Dr. Denis and Tanner and Harry for taking such good care of me.

Li-Keju Jerry Testimony

Li-Keju Enjoying Exercise Class
My name is Li-Keju Jerry and I WAS a diabetic! I came to the diabetes Wellness Center not knowing exactly what to expect. My blood sugar was 246 and my blood pressure was 146/10.  I was dying and didn’t even know it. I didn’t believe that I could be cured because my sugar was so high, but they made a believer out of me. I joined the program and started exercising every day and learned how to prepare healthy meals and control my blood sugar. With all the new changes to my life I starting to have more energy and could exercise more. In the beginning I didn’t have the energy to jump up and down at all and now I can do all kinds of aerobic and I’m loving it! I don’t even get sore from the workouts anymore plus I’ve lost over 10 pounds since I started the program.
Today my life is looking so much better than it did just a short three months ago. My blood sugar is down below 100 and my blood pressure is 126/83! The medications I’ve been taking for years are all
gone now… I don’t need them anymore (something I never thought possible). Now days I’m doing thing that I wouldn’t have dreamed of.  I have a new life thanks to the Diabetes Wellness Center. Thank you all for taking such great care of me.

Yosa Lokjohn Testimony

Yosa learns how to grow his own garden at the Center

Yosa exercising at the Center
On November 1, 2010 I joined the Wellness Center Program. I did not join because I was concerned about my sugar level/diabetes, I did join due to the fact that I was getting weak and felt dizzy. I could not control my balance. I was really worried! I can cook healthy food, and I have learned to do my own gardening! It will be a great asset to the families that have their own garden because they will cut down on spending money on vegetables. The bottom line, here it is: when you start something, stay with it to the end. Remember people will try to help you, but you and only you are the one that will help yourself.

I want everyone to know that diabetes can be cured. The key is to exercise everyday and eat all healthy food.  Today I'm really healing from diabetes and I am very thankful to our heavenly Father for life and for the people at the Diabetes Wellness Center. I even volunteer now at the Center to help wash dishes and do community outreaches to teach others about how to turn their life around and be healthy like me!

Cathlina De Brum Testimony

Cathlina poses for her graduation picture
The Wellness Center helped save my life. I had been told before about the need to exercise and diet but I never did it.  The doctors tried to help me but nothing worked. I was losing a lot of weight and I had a lot of fat that was making me real sick. When I first came to the program I had all kinds of sicknesses. My blood was so full of fat they couldn't read my Triglyceride levels! I had to exercise for one month before they could get any reading on the level and it came back at 886!  After only 6 weeks they tested my blood cholesterol again and my triglyceride level was down to 274!! My blood sugar went down from 299 to 162 in just four weeks because of the healthy diet and exercise. I had almost given up on myself when my blood sugar wouldn't go down.

Today I have a new life. The Wellness Center has not only helped me, but also my family. All my kids are now eating a healthy diet. My words of advice to everybody is to join the Wellness Program. For all those that need help with their sickness, the Wellness Center is the place to go. It will not only help you, but it will help your entire family to live a better lifestyle.

Sione Outafi Testimony

Sione receives his star at graduation

Sione tells his story to the new group

I found out I had diabetes shortly after moving to the Marshall Islands in the 1980's. My blood sugar was 321 and blood pressure was up to 140/90. I soon noticed a cut on my foot that started small and got larger and then I realized that I couldn't feel anything on my foot! Then one day I came for a checkup and met Denis Yates of the Diabetes Wellness Center and was put into a program on February 2010. When I started the program I was very overweight and by April I had lost over 20 pounds.  My blood sugar came down to 146. To this day I am still walking everyday and workout in the gym whenever I get a chance. I started feeding my grandkids the healthy foods now and they love it just like Grandpa does! Thank you Denis, Tanner, and all the others at the Wellness Center for making a new person and healthy person out of me.

Paul Tonyokwe Testimony

Paul poses for a picture outside of the Wellness Center
I became aware of the Wellness Program after listening to a radio program about diabetes and what the complications are if the disease is out of hand and testimonies from individuals who were in the program previously. After listening to the radio program, I said to myself  "maybe I should enroll and see what happens". My main concern at that time was my cholesterol levels. In January 2010 I registered and started the program. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Before starting the Wellness Program I used to feel fatigued and sleepy during the day. All my cholesterol levels were not within normal ranges and I was overweight.  My blood sugar level was in the upper one hundreds. Three weeks into the program I knew I was in the right place and heading in the right direction. The fatigue and sleepiness was gone and I was losing weight and had more energy. With all the exercise and encouragement from my fellow classmates and staff at the Center, I knew I was going to make it, and I did!
In May 2010 I had my medical check-up in Honolulu. My lab results came back and I am very glad to say that I am back to normal. My cholesterol levels are within normal ranges, my HbA1c is normal and I lost 33 pounds. I am very thankful for all the wonderful help I received. Now I am trying to maintain what I have accomplished through the Wellness Center Program.
Thanks again,
Paul Tonyokwe
